Do you need a shady outdoor space to beat the spring and summer heat in Columbia? Citadel Park is sure to be a treat! This quaint, family-friendly playground has so many unique and cozy features including a “Little Free Library,” beautiful landscape and large green space, a designated toddler area, and plenty of sitting space.

You Can Ride a T-Rex at Citadel Park

Citadel Park is situated one block off of Trenholm Road in the very popular and charming Forest Acres neighborhood. This park has the vibes of an exclusive neighborhood park but is open to everyone.

Playgrounds at Citadel Park

There are two main playground areas with one being dedicated to toddlers. The toddler area has a jungle gym with plenty of obstacles for littles that love to climb. But, better still, are the dinosaur spring riders! What kiddo doesn’t want to ride on a dinosaur and play pretend? My dino-obsessed son kept wandering back to these over and over again.

Outside of the toddler area, you will find two tall slides, a large jungle gym with monkey bars, and various types of swings. Both play areas are very well-shaded and the equipment never felt too hot, but always be sure to double-check before little hands start to grab hold!

Green Space for Open-Ended Play

One-half of the park is a large, open green space. This area is ideal for so many activities – spreading out on a blanket for a yummy picnic, throwing around a football with older kids, blowing bubbles with your littles, and everything in between. The green space is surrounded by beautiful landscape, wooden swings and benches, a small, covered gazebo, and plenty of trees for you guessed it . . . SHADE!

Grab a New Book at Citadel Park

Another thing we love about Citadel Park is the “Little Free Library.” You can grab a book to take back home, find a cozy space within the park to sit, read and return, or drop off your own gently used books for other families to enjoy.

Take a Stroll Through the Beautiful Forest Acres

If you’re looking to get in some exercise or extra sunshine, be sure to pack up the stroller or ride-on toys and walk through several blocks of the well-established Forest Acres neighborhood. While there are several spaces for parallel parking along the perimeter of the park, many families walk to and from their homes, so you won’t be the odd one out by taking a lap around! I wish we would have had some extra wheels for cruising when we went.

Citadel Park is sure to be the perfect, shady spot that you never knew you needed!
