Whether you’re wanting a quick trip out of the house for some fresh air or an adventure to take up the majority of your day, Carraway Park is the place for you! This playground features a large picnic shelter, all-inclusive play equipment, and wonderful safety features that are sure to help keep your mind at ease.
Know Before You Go: Carraway Park
Nestled on the banks of the Congaree River, in the heart of West Columbia, sits a wonderful park with fun for the whole family. When arriving at Carraway Park you will be greeted by a large parking lot with free parking and plenty of space to unload your tribe.
You enter the playground via a secure gate which leads into a well-designed picnic shelter with plenty of space and shade. This makes for the perfect place to sit and have lunch, quick snacks, or chat with other parents. Also covered by the gazebo are ADA-accessible family restrooms. In my experience, the restrooms have always been extremely clean and well-stocked.
Inclusive Playground Equipment at Carraway Park
Carraway Park is complete with fun and updated equipment that is most importantly inclusive to everyone. There are several different styles of swings – bucket swings for the littles, regular swings, and safety swings for our handiCAPABLE friends!
There are two zip lines (one that also includes a handicapped seat) where children are always lined up eagerly awaiting their turns. You will also find a large jungle gym, 2 merry-go-rounds (1 to stand on, 1 with seats), a free-standing slide, and my son’s personal favorite…the climbing wall!
Toddler and Preschool Playground
Also included within the park is a separate play area for children under 5 years old. This area is situated closest to the picnic shelter which is great for parents to be able to give their kiddos some space to explore independently while still being just a few steps away.
In this toddler space, you will find a smaller-styled jungle gym, climbing and balancing equipment as well as sensory equipment such as colorful spinners and various textures.
More Things to Do
While there are a lot of opportunities for fun to be had at the playground, we must also discuss the park’s perfect location! This park is right across the street from the famous West Columbia River Walk which is easily accessible by crossing over Alexander Road via a well-identified pedestrian crosswalk. There are also several well-known, local restaurants, antique shops, a bookstore, and a plant nursery within walking distance or less than a 5-minute car ride.
